The Duke Environment Club of Sacramento — affectionately nicknamed the “Sac Green Devils” — is a professional and social network for alumni and friends of the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment in California’s Capitol Region.
Founded by graduates of the Duke School of the Environment in 2017, the club serves environmental professionals living and working in Sacramento — California’s capital city. In recent years, we have been fortunate to welcome more and more alumni of the Nicholas School to the Capital Region, and it finally seemed appropriate to form a new “Duke Environment Club of Sacramento” to help our alumni community stay connected.
Our Mission
To cultivate and leverage a professional and social network in support of alumni of the Duke School of the Environment in the greater Sacramento region.
Our Vision
By uniting our collective strengths and experiences, Duke Environment alumni can lend service as leaders in the Sacramento professional community, and buoy the Capital Region’s role across the environmental sector.
Our Core Activities
- Professional networking events to unite members of our Duke Environment community with other like-minded alumni groups and professional networks, and share job postings, collaboration ideas, events, and other announcements and questions.
- Co-teaching events to share our individual expertise and knowledge with one another; practice upcoming presentations and lectures in front of engaged and passionate peers; or even lead field trips showcasing our respective career focus and case studies.
- Supporting current students at the Nicholas School through professional mentoring, client project opportunities, and other ways to “Go • Grow • Give”.
- Social events to bring us together over hikes, outings, and of course, Duke Basketball watch parties!
As California’s relevance and impact in environmental management, science, and policy grows ever more, we feel it’s critically important to strengthen our network and professional development as uniquely trained graduates of the Nicholas School of the Environment.
With our interdisciplinary training, we Duke Environment alumni can contribute greatly here in Sacramento, on national, state, and local fronts. So join us — and let’s make a difference in our careers, our community, and our planet!
